Zimmerman ZA Series air balancer – the most common choice for fast, precise handling of loads of varying weight. Lifting and lowering are controlled with an ergonomic pendant handle; after positioning the unit automatically returns to a balanced state and the operator can float the load by hand up to 457 mm for final placement. Steel housing, aircraft-grade wire rope, oil-free pre-lubricated piston chamber, continuous duty.
Safety: a centrifugal brake stops rapid cable retraction if the load is lost, the load stays suspended if the air supply is interrupted, and capacity can never exceed the rating at the given pressure. Also available with B (no control, for end effectors), BA (constant load) and EA (up to 3 loads) controls and with suspension for IR ZRA1/ZRA2/ZRAT aluminium rail, ZRS2/ZRS3 steel rail, I-beam or KBK rail. Above 227 kg no standard model fits – we offer an engineered solution (Zimmerman balancer, manipulator or rail system).
- 1Rail – Enclosed profile the trolley rolls in. ZRAT, ZRA1, ZRA2 – aluminium, ZRS2 – steel. A larger profile carries more.
- 2Hanger – Fixes the rail to the ceiling or a beam.
- 3Rail fixing spacing – How often the rail is fixed to the ceiling or support beam (distance between two hangers along the rail). The larger the spacing, the less the rail carries – the configurator checks this. IR table: 1–9 m.
- 4Runway length – Total rail length the balancer travels along. Longer runways are built from several rails.
- 5Splice kit – Joins two rails into one runway – no welding.
- 6End stop – At both rail ends – the trolley cannot run off the rail.
- 7Safety cable – Secondary attachment at every hanger (IR requirement).
- 8Trolley / suspension – Top mounting of the balancer: trolley on a rail (ZRA1, ZRA2, ZRAT, ZRS2), hook mount to an existing hook/beam, or no suspension.
- 9Balancer and Z-Stop – The Zimmerman air balancer keeps the load balanced. Z-Stop locks the cable drum when air or the interlock is off (standard on some models, an option on others).
- 10Stroke – How far the hook travels up and down: 2.03 m (3.05 m on the 91 kg model).
- 11Control – ZA – pendant up/down and float; BA – single fixed load; EA – up to 3 loads (high, low, no load); B – no control, for an end effector or own controls.
- 12Load – Load = part + gripper or tool; the configurator adds the balancer weight. The hook or end effector is ordered separately to suit the load.
