Ingersoll Rand ST500 Series Turbine Air Starters (8–44 hp)
The ST500 Series is a radial-turbine, pre-engaged air starter for mid-size diesel and gas engines: diesel engines of approx. 8–100 litres and gas engines up to approx. 200 litres. An overhung nose and clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation make it easy to fit most engines.
- 44 hp turbine motor that needs no external lubrication.
- Smooth pre-engagement – the pinion engages before full power, minimising ring gear wear.
- Sealed, oil-lubricated planetary gears – maintenance-free operation.
- Air or natural gas, operating pressure 2.1–10.3 bar.
- 4 inlet, 4 exhaust and 16 drive housing positions, SAE 1, SAE 3 and Mitsubishi flanges, a choice of pinions.
Models and model code
ST544 (44% arc) is for higher supply pressures, ST599 (99% arc) for lower pressures and maximum power. Example ST599F03R25-02FJ: ST599 – model, F – gear ratio, 03 – SAE 3 flange, R – right-hand rotation, 25 – pinion, 02FJ – orientation. The ST500 successor is the ST2000 Series (ST544 → ST2060, ST599 → ST2099).
Orientation – same starter, different position
The orientation code at the end of the model number (e.g. -02FJ, -2N or -POS) only defines the inlet, exhaust, drive housing and flange positions on the engine. The starter itself is the same. Each product page lists the same starter in other orientations – choose the one that fits your engine installation, or ask us.
