The Ingersoll Rand ST400C03R29 turbine air starter is a compact, high-performance starting solution for diesel and gas engines operating in demanding industrial environments. This is a specifically configured ST400 series model, designed to deliver smooth, reliable engine starts where electric starting systems are impractical or not recommended.

Description

Ingersoll Rand ST400C03R29 turbine air starter is part of the ST400 series of compact, high-performance starting solutions designed for diesel and gas engines operating in demanding industrial environments. This is a specifically configured model, providing smooth and reliable engine starts in applications where electric starting systems are impractical or not recommended.

The ST400 series is based on a high-efficiency turbine motor design, where compressed air is directed through a high-speed rotating turbine. This design delivers strong starting torque, rapid acceleration, and an excellent power-to-weight ratio compared to traditional vane-type air starters. Turbine technology minimizes mechanical wear and is particularly well suited for applications with frequent starts and critical reliability requirements.

Technical Overview – ST400C03R29

ST400C03R29 is a pre-configured ST400 series variant, where the model code defines specific mounting and operating parameters:

  • Series: ST400 (turbine air starter)
  • ARC: 44% – balanced airflow and starting torque
  • Operating pressure: 90–150 psi (6.2–10.3 bar)
  • Maximum power: up to approx. 25 HP (19 kW), depending on pressure
  • Flange: SAE 3
  • Rotation: Right-hand
  • Starting type: Pre-engaged

This configuration is suitable for diesel engines approximately in the 5–60 liter range, depending on starting conditions, engine condition, and available system pressure.

ARC (%) – Why it matters

ARC (Air Restriction Control) defines how much inlet air is utilized during the starting process.
A 44% ARC provides a balanced combination of fast response and controlled engagement, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial engines requiring smooth and repeatable starting performance.

Key Benefits

  • Compact and lightweight design – easy installation, even in confined spaces
  • Turbine technology – excellent power-to-weight ratio
  • Low maintenance requirement – turbine motor requires no external lubrication
  • Pre-engaged starting – reduced shock loads and minimized gear wear
  • Industrial-grade reliability – suitable for harsh and demanding environments

Typical Applications

  • Marine engines and auxiliary generators
  • Power generation
  • Industrial diesel and gas engines
  • Stationary and off-highway applications

*ST400 series starters are highly configurable. If a different ARC, flange, gear ratio, pinion, rotation, or mounting orientation is required, we strongly recommend selecting the configuration together with our technical support team.
